ish
I first learned design principles by watching my dad physically cut and paste designs for magazines and advertisements. He taught me about kerning and spacing as we put together trifold science presentations on the dining room table he built when I was a toddler. I remember the smell of spray adhesive, and the magic of light boxes in his office. The most important design lesson I learned from him, however, was how to listen.
This is why I think the most satisfying part of any design project is helping a client figure out what they need—the process of asking targeted questions and providing space for meaningful discussions. I enjoy the “ish” of it all, and think there’s plenty of fun to be had in the margins!
